![]() ![]() The distribution, sale and publication of many books, newspapers and tape cassettes were banned in the State of Emergency Region. In the State of Emergency Region, freedom of thought was intensely under prevention. People, who defended views different from the “state policies”, particularly, human rights defenders and representatives of non-governmental organizations as well as the associations, trade unions, political parties and publication institutions under which those people assembled continued their activities under the threat of State Security Courts (SSCs) and prisons in 2002. Organizations and people, who criticized the arguments and practices determined by authorities as the “state policy”, faced arbitrary detention, threats and were put on trial.
